“Great race and atmosphere! 1st time running this and loved it. Tons of water stations AND volunteers at every corner with well marked course! Challenging hills, but hey, those down-hills were sweet. After 14K, I certainly appreciated the last mile downward slope the whole way! Great, well run, race.”

“Loved this race! Very well organized with course well marked. Very important to directionally challenged people like myself. Thanks to all involved.”

“Thank you very much for letting me be a part of this event today. The runners had great spirit and I hope they enjoyed Cohoes– and that they didn’t find the hills too challenging! Volunteers were terrific. Everyone’s generosity will help senior citizens and children in Cohoes. Congratulations!” Kumi Tucker – News Anchor – WNYT

“I thought the volunteers that directed runners all along the course did an awesome job! Thanks for a well-organized race that was a lot of fun.”

“Great race today. Thanks to the organizers and volunteers. Can’t wait till next year to do it again”.

“Great race. Course was well marked and traffic controlled- thanks to all the volunteers. See you next year.”

“Thanks for a great race. Driving home the two of us agreed it was one of the best run/coordinated races we’ve ever run. From the volunteers at every corner who were CHEERING none the less, water stops every mile, mile markers, an interesting course, and great tech shirts even for those who registered late, everything was perfect. A million thank yous to your race coordinator and everyone who worked hard. we’ll definitely be back next year.”

Mastodon Challenge 2015

Every great community needs special events that draw residents together, entice visitors to visit, promote local businesses, and feature area attractions. On Saturday, May 9, 2015 – the City of Cohoes will hold the “Mastodon Challenge” 15K Race, 5K Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run. These races return following the highly successful events of the past 2 years. The name of the races better characterizes the nature of them and reflects the feedback from our over 500 runners. The race course continues to show off the best of Cohoes, highlighting the history, recreation, business, culture and community feel of Cohoes.

Two worthwhile local organizations have been helped and continue to be the focus of our fundraising efforts. Race proceeds will benefit the Cohoes Multi-Service Senior Citizen Center to help fulfill its mission “to promote the dignity of older adults living in the community and to provide programs and services needed to support their living healthy and productive lives.” Race proceeds will also benefit the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program in Cohoes to help provide learning support to as many children and families as possible. We are so happy to have been able to give The Senior Center $27,000 and the Cohoes UPK Program $22,000 over the past three years with help from generous sponsors and our increasingly enthusiastic runners.

Join us! The race committee is once again looking to partner with local businesses, schools, organizations and motivated citizens. These highly publicized events continue to grow. Hundreds of participants, from professional runners to aspiring athlete’s and young children are expected for these races as well as their enthusiastic fans! So whether you’re a runner, a volunteer or want to join us as a sponsor – Register online at zippyreg.com or contact us today – you will make a difference in the lives of many.
